As a husband, father, brother, and mate, I understand the complexity of relationships, the emotional weight of modern life, and the courage it takes to reach out for support. My name is Alexander Hogg, and I’m the founder of Mindful Mates Counselling — a mens and family counselling service grounded in neuro-affirming, trauma-informed, real-life experience and evidence-based care.
I am a professionally accredited Mental Health Social Worker, holding a Bachelor of Psychological Science and a Master of Social Work, and am fully registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
As an accredited Mental Health Social Worker, my practice blends clinical expertise with real-world experience across government mental health services and community-based programs supporting men, children, families, and individuals with complex mental health and neurodevelopmental needs. I began my career in youth homelessness and out-of-home care, expanding into acute mental health, trauma recovery, and systemic family therapy. I specialise in truama recovery, crisis support, addictions, risk assessment, suicide prevention, mental state examinations, and care planning. I can also provide therapeutic support for autistic and ADHD clients, including those with PDA profiles, and work closely with families navigating the NDIS.
My clinical approach draws from a wide range of modalities, including EMDR, DBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Play-Based Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Circle of Security, and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)
At Mindful Mates Counselling, our mission is to provide down-to-earth, neurodiversity-affirming, and trauma-informed counselling that helps men, women, and families feel safe, seen, and supported.
We are committed to offering accessible, evidence-based therapy that honours each person's lived experience, especially those who have been misunderstood, masked for too long, or told to toughen up. Through meaningful connection, practical strategies, and deep respect for neurodivergent ways of being, we walk alongside our clients as they heal, grow, and reconnect with themselves and others.
